Where we are from and what we are.

Sitzendorf is nestled in thebeautiful valley of the upperSchwarza in the ThuringianForest. The peaceful countrysideand picturesque landscape make the area ideal for holidays at any time of year. Sitzendorf has earned a special place in the history of Thuringian porcelain. Manufacturing today lt was Georg Heinrich Macheleid who first made porcelain here, independently of others who were doing the same elsewhere. In 1760 he petitioned Johann Friedrich von Schwarzenburg and asked for permission to open a porcelain factory.

He received the royal concession and began to manufacture porcelain in a modest way. In 1762, at the prince's request, he moved his factory to Volkstedt. In the above sense, Sitzendorf is the cradle of Thuringian porcelain. But Macheleid's move to Volkstedt brought a respite to the village — for 90 years.

In 1850 the innkeeper Wilhelm Liebmann of Lichte applied for and received the royal privilege of opening another porcelain factory in Sitzendorf.
